YEAR-ROUND FARMERS’ MARKETS AND CSA SUBSCRIPTIONS
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) encourages you to visit a year-round Virginia farmers’ market and enjoy fresh local produce. "Consumers want to buy locally-grown food throughout the year," says VDACS Commissioner Matthew J. Lohr. “Year-round markets are able to meet this need and bring in additional income to support farm families." Explore this site, VirginiaGrown.com, to find a year-round market near you. Farms across Virginia are now signing up members for 2012 Community Support Agriculture (CSA) subscriptions. CSA’s allow consumers to buy local, seasonal foods directly from a farmer. Consumers purchase a CSA subscription and in return receive a box, bag or basket of local, seasonal foods throughout the farming season. Click on Community Supported Farm by Region to view the list of Virginia farms that offer CSA subscriptions.
