The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Animal and Food Industry Services is seeking a Veterinary Pathologist for the Regional Animal Health Laboratory system. This position will serve as one of two pathologists providing histopathology services to the Office of Laboratory Services, share case overview and quality control of pathology and necropsy services provided by the veterinary diagnosticians in the five regional animal health laboratories, and provide occasional back-up gross pathology and necropsy services. Incumbent will be required to provide coverage statewide and must reside within the State of Virginia. Job duties will require occasional travel to the regional animal health laboratories located in Ivor, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, Warrenton and Wytheville, Virginia. Exact geographic distribution of laboratory responsibilities and workplace base point is negotiable.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a degree in Veterinary Medicine from an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine or certification by the AVMA Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary graduates. Requires Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP), or eligibility to receive Board certification by the ACVP and a timetable to achieve that certification. Requires experience with large, companion and exotic animals; diagnostic veterinary laboratory experience or training; and excellent oral/written communication skills. Minimum Hiring Salary: $90,000, commensurate with relevant experience.
