This program is one of the grading and inspection programs grouped within the VDACS office of Commodity Services.
The function of the program is to provide user specific service in inspection and certification of fresh and processed fruits, vegetables, peanuts and related products as these commodities are marketed.
The inspection programs are conducted under the auspices of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through several cooperative agreements with VDACS. Inspectors are trained and employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and licensed by the USDA.
Funds for program operations are generated through assessment of user fees with administrative support provided by the state. The services are voluntary and are available to any party who has a financial interest in the product.
The program also administers both the Virginia Controlled Atmosphere Storage Law and Seed Potato Inspection Law.10 Reasons For Inspection
