The Virginia Animal Identification Program helps protect livestock and poultry production in the Commonwealth by assisting producers, veterinarians, market operators and event managers with animal identification and disease traceability issues. Permanent, individual animal identification and good record-keeping regarding herd additions and off-farm movements allows animal health officials to respond rapidly and effectively to disease events when they occur. Rapid and focused response saves everyone time and money, and helps maintain consumer confidence in Virginia agricultural products.
